Farnesi's Steakhouse & Bar in Chowchilla sits right off East Robertson Boulevard, serving up a straightforward, hearty dining experience that blends classic steakhouse fare with comforting breakfast and café-style options. This is a spot where you’ll find locals stopping in for everything from a solid breakfast burrito on a morning drive to a filling prime rib dinner after a day out in the Central Valley.

The atmosphere here leans toward casual and unpretentious — a roomy dining area with plenty of parking nearby, suitable for families, travelers, and regulars alike. The bar section adds a relaxed layer, with table service and TVs showing games, making it a place where folks might linger for a slow afternoon drink or dinner after a long day on the road.

The menu is broad and practical, featuring hearty staples like prime rib roasted fresh daily, broiled pork chops, and a classic steak sandwich. Breakfast options such as the cowboy burger or meat lover’s omelette work well for early risers, especially those passing through who need something convenient yet filling. The kitchen covers a surprising range, from seafood plates like pan-seared salmon to home-style pasta options with a spicy chipotle twist, accommodating a variety of tastes without drifting into anything too fancy.

Service can be a mixed bag — staff tend to be friendly and flexible, willing to customize dishes like breakfast burritos for people on the go, though the pace might feel a bit slow at times due to limited personnel during busy stretches. Flavor-wise, dishes lean toward robust seasoning, which some visitors find a bit heavy, especially on sides like mashed potatoes and vegetables.

Visitors looking for a cozy, dependable meal in a small-town setting will find Farnesi’s a convenient stop, whether fueling up for a morning on the road or settling in for a casual dinner. The quieter early dinners and weekend mornings are likely the best times to enjoy the full range of what they offer without the wait, especially since the spot can draw steady traffic from locals and travelers alike.

This place is ridiculous—in the best way possible! Honestly, we didn’t expect much because it’s in a tiny town with more cows than people, but wow… were we in for a surprise! From the mouthwatering Korean BBQ Rib appetizer to the decadent Ube Cheesecake, every bite was perfection. Hats off to Chef David—you, sir, are a true master of your craft. We’ve had steaks at big-name places like Hell’s Kitchen that couldn’t hold a candle to what we had here. If you’re anywhere nearby (or even just passing through), do yourself a favor and stop in for a meal. You won’t regret it.

Stopped in for breakfast burritos while traveling. Waitress was absolutely great!! They even customized the burritos the way we wanted with no issues.....they even wrapped them for easy eating on the road. We will definitely go again.

Fantastic spot in chowchilla! The top sirloin steak was cooked perfectly - a very nice medium rare. It was seasoned well for a thick and juicy steak. The reason why I had to rate the food a 4/5 is because everything was heavily salted; too much. The steamed veggies tasted like they were soaked in salt water. The brown gravy on top of my mashed potatoes was heavily salted - inedible, I just ate around the gravy. The Bourbon Pork Belly Bites were absolutely amazing. Perfectly balanced on the pallet. There's the smokiness of the bourbon, which wasn't overbearing. The texture was on point; soft-tender on the fat, and some of the meat had a bit of a bite to it. It was a good thing for the texture contrast.

I stop by this place every time on the drive between Nor Cal and So Cal. Right off the freeway, plenty of parking, good menu from breakfast to dinner, and the bar has table service with all the games on. Service is a little slow, don’t have much service staff. But reasonable prices, good selection, plenty of easy parking. Can’t go wrong.

We had an early dinner so there was no waiting. We were seated immediately and the service was excellent. My husband had the prime rib dinner with pilaf. Said the meat was seasoned well and very tender. The pilaf was buttery, the vegetables were fresh, not frozen and salad was cold and crisp. I had the meatloaf dinner and all was homemade and delicious. For dessert we shared the lemon berry cake. To die for it was so moist! We will definitely go back again. Highly recommend this restaurant.
